The Data Steward position is responsible for managing and overseeing the business’s data assets to ensure data quality, integrity, and privacy. The expectation is to facilitate data-driven decision-making and support analytical efforts to maintain and improve the data usability within the organization. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to establish data governance principles and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and supporting data-related projects within the business. This position serves as the escalation point and authority for resolving data-related concerns.

Responsibilities

 

  • Data Governance: Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security in compliance with industry regulations.
  • Data Modeling: Develop and maintain data models and structures to facilitate data storage, retrieval, and analysis.
  • Data Quality Management: Monitor data quality, identify anomalies and implement data cleansing and enrichment processes. Collaborate with the business and IT teams on the data requirements to support the client and internal needs. Support data related projects across the organization. Responsible for creating and maintaining data integrity.
  • Trend Identification: Analyze industry trends and identify patterns and insights to support strategic decision-making in product development and beyond. Conduct market analysis by integrating internal and external data sources. Provide actionable insights to guide the product and data positioning.
  • Data Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of data models and data dictionaries to facilitate data understanding and accessibility.
  • Data Security and Compliance: Develop data security protocols and compliance standards.
  • Data Reporting and Visualization: Create and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools to communicate insights effectively.

Qualifications

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Computer Science, Data Science, etc.)

 

Related Experience:  Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in data management, data governance in the pharmaceutical or life sciences.  Strong knowledge in data analysis techniques, statistical analysis, and data visualization tools. Proficiency in data management tools preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks, data quality principles, and data protection regulations.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify data issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and collaboration skills to work effectively across multiple disciplines with the ability to explain complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. High level of accuracy and attention to detail in data management and documentation activities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Prescription Drug Marketing Act (PDMA) preferred.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or DCAM.
  • Certification in data management or data governance (e.g., CDMP, DGSP).
  • Experience with Microsoft office tools (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
